Once the dashboard is removed, you can place an opening with a screwdriver behind the ignition switch.

How to Replace the Ignition Key on a Saab 9-5

The metal part of the classic Saab keys is easy to duplicate and does not present a major threat to theft of vehicles. The electronic portion of the key-fob has an embedded chip that can identify the car when the key is put in the ignition switch.

Saab replacement key programming has relied on the technology of this anti-theft system for more than 10 years. It's not as efficient as a physical door lock however it makes stealing your car more difficult. This is the reason why every saab 93 replacement key owner should always have a spare key on hand.

The majority of new Saabs come with two keys, but they can be added by a dealer using a special handheld device called a Tech-2. How to replace the ignition Key on a Saab XC90

If your SAAB 9-3 key fob begins having trouble turning the barrel of the lock it could be time to replace it. It's quite simple and doesn't require you to visit a dealer. You can do it at home with just a few simple tools.

You'll first need to prepare the keys for your new car. Before you begin, turn off the anti-theft by placing blocks under your rear wheels, and then releasing your handbrake. Put the key into the ignition and then turn the key to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories, but it will not start the engine. Repeat this five times, and then leave the key in the "on" position.

The next step is to buy a new case for your old key fob. They can be found in most auto parts stores and are usually quite affordable. Depending on the model, you could even purchase them without electronics.

To open up the case, insert a flathead screwdriver inside the slot that is in the middle. Gently work it. Once you split the case, you'll be able to access all the internal electronic components. To remove the electronics, use a small flathead screwdriver and try prying them out in a gentle manner.
