The purpose of the meeting is to provide project information and solicit feedback from the public. In the present, Barstow City is planning to construct a new BNSF train yard. The proposed project will provide an important improvement to the City's rail infrastructure. The project will also expand the capacity of tracks to keep up with the increase in freight traffic through Barstow.

BNSF recently announced six new BNSF Certified Sites, which are optimal locations for customer development along the railroad's network. To ease congestion at this crossing, BNSF is building a new bridge structure to provide greater capacity and security. The project will be completed by 2022 and will include an elevated platform and an extended span to accommodate more vehicles and passengers.

More than 35,000 vehicles drive through the Pines/Trent intersection every day. This traffic causes delays at the intersection and has resulted in 49 collisions over the last five years. To address the increased traffic, BNSF is constructing a new double-track bridge structure that will be constructed over the existing intersection.
