Modern electronic key fobs provide greater convenience and function compared to a manual key. Batteries eventually degrade and need to be changed. If your Volvo keyfob is only working intermittently, your battery might be dying and you will need to replace it in the near future.

Fortunately, there are simple steps that you can follow to replace your volvo c30 key key fob battery on your own. First, locate a clean work surface to perform the process. Then, lay out all of the tools needed. Find the battery hatch, and make sure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to make the hatch off. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it up on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to protect the electronic contact surfaces.

Insert the new battery into the socket once the old one is removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is securely seated in all the clips. Then slide the cover back towards the key-ring loop until it becomes loose and slips off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the mechanical key blade inside. You can use it to unlock your car from the driver's door if you have lost or damaged your key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The unlock button can also be used to roll down the windows during a hot day or to let fresh air in before stepping out on the road. If you'd like to do more, the keyfob can be used to activate the ERS which will start the climate control system in your vehicle. It will then warm or cool the vehicle to the desired temperature levels when the vehicle is in a parking.

How do I replace the battery?

If your key fob isn't locking or unlocking your car as it did in the past, it may be time to change the battery. The keyfobs of Volvo have evolved in recent years. They're no longer simply a remote for locking and starting your car; they can also open your windows, and give you an emergency boost. To unlock the full potential of your key fob, first you will have to master how to use it.

Your key fob comes with a transponder that has been programmed for your Volvo. When you insert the key fob into the ignition barrel, the transponder chip scans the code and compares it to the one stored in the start inhibitor module of your vehicle. If the codes do not match, your vehicle will not start. This is an important security measure to prevent your Volvo from beginning if the wrong key is used.

You'll need to bring your lost key to a dealer in order to have it replaced. Your vehicle will also be programmed. The process can take up to 10 working days and cost a lot of money. You can save money by programming your own computer. You will find all the information you need in the owner's manual, or on the Internet. First, remove the logo and non-logo covers from your key fob. Then lay it on a flat surface. Locate the grey button on the top right corner of the fob. Press it down.
