Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed an exclusive key case to mark the centennial of the company. It is made of Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it comes with a flying 'B' paperweight, a set keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

It's a great present to greet a new owner of their opulent vehicle.

Aesthetics

As a design-driven company, Bentley takes its aesthetics extremely seriously. It shows in the precision location of its quilting the selection of leather from by-products of cattle, the wood that comes from sustainably managed forests and the ingenious patterns that are etched on its levers. As you approach a car like the Continental GT W12, its exquisite design is revealed through carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top bentley leather key case ever created. The rear tonneau, for example, showcased the largest piece of dark-stained, book-matched Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to the production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this unique design, quality and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the most sought-after automotive brand. The company continues to push boundaries using the most advanced technologies and hand-crafted products. A century since its founding, Bentley - now under sole Volkswagen ownership following years of wrangling with BMW and BMW - celebrated its centennial in the year 2019. Design

This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests, seats and other areas of the car. This adds to the celebration. Function

The Bentley Mulsanne Key features two buttons: one that opens the trunk, and the second that starts the vehicle. The key also has a button to turn on the parking brake. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors if you are parking in a tight space. This feature makes it easier to get into and out of your vehicle.

Each key takes two days to create. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, sewed, sealed, and then polished to produce a premium result. It is compact and strong and fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is reminiscent of the Volkswagen Phaeton's large car key, but feels more substantial and luxurious.

It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key which can help prevent theft of keys with no key. The device is placed inside the remote-control key fob and stops it after a couple of minutes of inactivity, which prevents thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley estimates it takes approximately 500 man-hours to design and put together the typical Mulsanne. The inability to adopt modern technology is the primary factor to this time-consuming effort. The Crewe factory workers do not make use of a machine to create perfectly-matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, rather than relying on the built-in sensors to direct them to perpendicular and parallel spots.

In the course of the event, Bentley presented its Mulliner personalization options with an exclusive example that was the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays tribute to the founder William Osler bentley key shell. The limited-edition cars have 100 of them. a special key that displays a portion of the 1930 8 Litre's crankshaft.
