What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib, also known as a bassinet or a co-sleeper, is a small baby cot attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep right next to you in peace. This is a type of safe co-sleeping that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.

The cots usually have a side that is able to be adjusted so that you can easily reach your infant at night to feed and comforting. This is especially useful for mothers recovering from the c-section. Some are also portable or foldable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleeping solution for infants who aren't yet ready to move to a full-sized cot.

Choose a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as a protective cover that will keep your baby safe from staining. You might also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.

If you're looking for a more long-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot or toddler bed at the time of need. They are known for their high-end baby products English brand Joie has entered the world of cribs for bedside cot bed use with the Roomie Glide. The co-sleeper was created to enable parents to bond and sleep side-by-side with their children without sharing the same bed. It is full of features that make bonding between parent and baby safe, easy and enjoyable.

One of the key features is a smooth rocking motion that can be activated at the touch of a button. This gentle rhythm will help soothe your baby to sleep without disrupting their normal sleep patterns. This is great for older babies and toddlers who struggle to settle. It can help with digestive issues like colic and reflux.

The crib can also be attached to the side of the bed by an attachment strap and clip. This makes the crib stable and secure and allows you to sleep comfortably without fearing that your baby might roll off into the middle. The cocoon's rounded shape features softly cushioned sides and double mesh windows on both ends to allow for ample air flow while keeping your baby secure.

The mattress included is comfortable and firm. It also comes with a washable cover. The crib is easy to assemble and disassemble with an aluminum frame that is lightweight and makes it very mobile. The four wheels that are rubber-covered and lockable ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and is easy to move. The crib is easy to clean with the fabric that wipes clean and is able to be easily tucked away in bags for overnight stays.

The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir

Created to be a safe crib that can be used as a next-to-me crib from birth until six months old, this top model features rocking bars and castors for easy mobility. Its airflow mattress is luxurious and provides an ideal sleeping surface and ventilators keep your baby cool. There are six different height settings, including an incline setting that can aid with congestion and reflux.

The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib comes with a removable fabric and wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than other bedside baby sleeper cribs which can create messy to clean. Additionally, it comes with an upper bar that can be easily adjusted for feeding at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.

Anna discovered the CoZee to be a safe and comfortable place to sleep for her infant. She was delighted that it didn't rock like some other models, meaning it wasn't waking her in the night when she was trying to soothe her baby for feedings. She also liked that the sides of the chair could be lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the child out to feed them at night.

The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a beautiful addition to the bedroom. It's more stylish than the other cribs we've tested, which are often quite utilitarian. It's also fairly light at 11kg and comes with a carry case which allows you to take it away on holidays or if you're moving home. The only things you'll need to buy are a waterproof sheet and a co-sleeping safety strap. The instructions and illustrations are easy to follow once you open the box.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet designed for infants designed to make parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and moves through three slide positions to fit beside the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room to ensure that your baby is close to the parent's side. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to circulate through and allows you to glance at your child. You can also keep additional pajamas or other items in the large storage basket beneath.

The Iora is a smaller bedside crib that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. Our mom testers were able to move it from room to room and felt that it was a good size for a small bedside cot, and not too big or too small. The large storage basket is perfect for storing extra bedding or nappies.

This is an excellent choice for parents who want to co-sleep, but do not wish to share their beds or whose partners may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back issues. Our mums who tested it loved the ease with which they could access their baby while in the Iora and that it came with an adjustable reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.

Our mothers are also thrilled that it meets NICE guidelines that state to put the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys, pillows, etc). They also state that the mattress is comfortable and firm for baby and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as some of the smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier for you to move, you can choose another alternative.
