UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors are worn out with time and require to be replaced. It is crucial to match the dimensions of the handles that were previously used when replacing them.

Inline Lever/Lever

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles used on the majority of doors. These handles are operated by a single spindle or by two spindles inline or offset. They are typically used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They are available in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in a variety of finishes including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle a high performance and durability to serve its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC lever pad designs come with a spindle and screws, allowing them to be put on a new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which can be beneficial when replacing a faulty or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also sprung, solving the problem of handles hanging from their horizontal position when not in use.

When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often referred to as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the right handles.

Once you have decided on the correct PZ size it is important to make sure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They are usually rectangular or round in shape with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we offer are spring-loaded. This means that they can be reverted to a horizontal state when not being used instead of hanging and possibly securing to the frame. This keeps draughts out of the property. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC lever pad handles are handed which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually found on uPVC bi-fold doors handles, but can also be used on other types of doors. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock body and permitting them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is essential. It's dependent on the use that your doors and handles receive. For example, external doors should be fitted with a higher security cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can improve security, such as anti drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place, but in the event that this is not feasible, you can take it off and remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, therefore it is crucial that it is not too long.

The design of many modern cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This can deflect the attack, and protect your door.

Some cylinders are designed to resist snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and easier to achieve than gaining access through a multipoint lock and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is located in the base of the door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution to return the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after use. There was a time when handles did not have a spring built into them and without this they can droop or 'drop' once the window locking handles mechanism is removed. This component is the best solution to address this issue. It also prevents your door from becoming stuck in the open or closed position since they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with multipoint locks sprung, they will not fit non-sprung multipoint handles. You will require a hole specifically cut in the backplate to allow them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as one unit. They feature a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
