Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and increased global demand.

Our service can provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history, and an evaluation using the standard adhd titration waiting list questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, via video link, or over the phone). Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you the opportunity to increase your dosage to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process could take several weeks, and involves gradually adjusting your child’s medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medicines until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. Parents must participate in this titration adhd meds process and keep a close eye on their child's behaviour so that they can let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with an individual prescription that you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You must attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if appropriate. The appointment will usually be conducted via zoom video call. However, in some cases, it may be possible for an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

We will then go over treatment options and choose an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication and any side effects that you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration consultations is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms impact your life, including any issues with your relationships that you may be having or other mental health problems that you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to examine your family background to determine if you are at chance of developing this condition.

It is important to be honest and truthful to the doctor during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential step in the process because if you don't do it, it could result in an incorrect diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you've decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this area. If you'd like to start treatment right away you can start treatment at the time of diagnosis. Or you can wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

If you're not sure which one you prefer, we suggest that you speak to your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment as certain providers have different policies regarding whether they require a GP referral letter or not. We also advise to check if your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be sent back to them to get the medication prescription.

Medication

The medication process is an essential part of the journey for many people looking for an official ADHD diagnosis. Finding a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and long-winded. NHS waiting lists are notoriously how long does adhd titration take and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

One way to get around this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers a private assessment and titration. This can reduce your wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.

If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment, your chosen clinician will evaluate you and determine whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will be asked to fill in forms that vary by provider but the main ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood to adulthood. They will help your physician identify any conditions that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medications if they're prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, this will usually include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you, taking into consideration any medical conditions you may have. The titration process can be a lengthy process and may require a number of additional appointments before your dose is stable.

Depending on the kind of medication you are taking, follow up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Your doctor will ensure whether you are stable on the medication, record any adverse reactions you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you remain on a safe dosage. You will be required to go to an annual review and a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.

For some people it could be because they are content with their medication and don't require a further discussion about their titration. For those who require further discussions regarding their titration and treatment plans, it is possible that they will be referred back to the private clinic that made their initial assessment. In this instance the titration period adhd will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will be given via the private prescription. This could cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
