WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also increased with every upgrade items.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with lower requirements due to the need to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade items your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item upgrading but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item level upgrade will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if the items come from a different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that crests are only available for gear of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are full of high-quality gear.
