Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver, even in tight spaces.

If you want a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. They are susceptible, however, to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.

Sturdy frame

The latest figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom - is in steep decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.

The idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it'll be for your buggy to deal with rough ground and bumpy pavements. With larger wheels front and back also makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with an infant and a toddler and found it to be extremely robust. It was able to handle cobbles, grass and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and require to be pumped up occasionally, have built-in suspension. This was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size and shape. You'll want it to be large enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies have the option of lying flat, which allows your child to lie flat and face you, while others only permit a parent-facing option.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or walking in muddy areas. This buggy is suitable for a single child starting from birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability while driving over rough terrain. This is ideal for off-road buggies. They also allow you to navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This is especially useful when you crash into trees or a kerb. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures and you'll need to have a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.

Our top three-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both buggies feature larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly go up and down kerbs. The buggies also have a suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you're using it as a jogger or you need to maneuver through narrow doorways when out and about. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels to make compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the major advantages to a three wheel buggy is that it is much easier to maneuver, especially with a child on the way. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are really easy to maneuver and are ideal for tricky terrain such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a best lightweight 3 wheel stroller wheeler with her toddler and newborn and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain and the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also amazed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on uneven terrain."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel all terrain buggy-wheel buggy may make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when your home is an urban area. If this is a problem then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.
