Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're seeking a buggy to run with or just a compact stroller for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily, even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. They are susceptible, however, to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Recent figures have been released revealing that the three-wheeled vehicle - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sense is in a decline. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more flexible and simple to drive, while also looking fashionable.

The idea is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear allow you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 wheel stroller brands year old and found that it was able to handle grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped up regularly and have a suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to consider is the size of the seat and shape. It should be big enough for your child's comfort and you will also require it to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies will have the option of reclining completely, while others only allow for a parent facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or wet walks. The buggy can be used as a single unit from the beginning and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness and a spacious padded seat unit. The storage options are good as well, with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood, and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - perfect for buggies designed for off-road use. Additionally, they allow you to maneuver the buggy through tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with rotating wheels at the front to aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed for running and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is particularly useful when you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will lift slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many lightweight 3 wheel stroller wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. They are also more susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to have a repair kit and spare inner tube on hand.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are among our favorite 3-wheelers. Both of these buggies come with larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly go up and down kerbs. They also have suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This is an issue especially if you're using it to an exercise bike or to maneuver through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels to create more compact 3 wheel stroller storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the major advantages of a three-wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in the back. The way they are built means that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are really easy to manoeuvre, making them ideal for difficult terrains like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheeler with her infant and toddler and said: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough ground with the swivel rear wheel particularly useful. I was also impressed by the way it handled bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on a rough terrain."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should be aware of when your home is an urban area. If this is a problem, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.

Bumper bar
