The Band Toto

Albums

Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums and four live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Before the formation of Toto, band members did session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs 1975 album Silk Degrees. The group's collaboration led to formation of Toto in 1976.

The third album of Toto, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their previous efforts and was criticized for its absence of hit singles. In 1985 the singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group The band held auditions for a new frontman. The band selected guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in the year 1986.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to mark the 20th anniversary of the band. The group went through old tapes and recordings to create the album. The album was a hit by fans and the band embarked on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

While touring for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar left the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the band.

Drummer David Hungate also left the band following the tour. Leland Sklar was his replacement.

The TOTO Museum is a futuristic building that has several exhibition rooms that are dedicated to telling the story of the company and its most innovative products. Toto has produced a number of music videos. The band has also released several compilation videos and DVDs. The most watched video by the band is "Africa" which has over one billion views. The video is set in a library and features the band performing in front of a book about Africa.

The track "Africa" is from the album Toto IV, was written by the members of the band and produced by David Paich.
