Buying a Convertible Single to Double Stroller

There aren't many things more exciting than finding out that you're expecting your second child. Making preparations for your family's new baby can be difficult.

One of them is choosing the best double pram for your needs. This article will cover the different options available along with some suggestions to help you select the best pram for your growing family.

Convertible double prams

A convertible single-to-double pram and pushchair stroller is a great option if you want a pram that can grow with your family. These innovative frames, such as the Cybex Aton 4 Twin, can be expanded in width to accommodate a second seat and usually come with the option for an additional shopping basket or two carrycots/car seats (with upper adapters and lower ones available) so that you can begin your family with just one buggy and then upgrade to twins without needing to buy a new one again. They usually offer more configuration and seating options for both children than other styles of double prams too and will have better weight distribution so they're generally easier to maneuver. They are compact, easy to use and adaptable. Cons: There is less space and storage space for both children and parents compared to other designs.

Tandem (in-line) double prams

As the name implies, tandem prams have two bassinets or seats for prams that are positioned one ahead of the other. Tandem prams are generally narrower than side-by-side double prams, and are easier to manoeuvre through doorways and on public transport. They don't offer the same amount of storage space and can be difficult to reach when both seats are in use especially when your child is sitting in the front.

Many first-time parents opt for a tandem stroller in order to safeguard their investment should they have more children with the same age. Our DUO2 pram is a popular example. It's initially an individual buggy however, it can be transformed into a twin stroller by adding an additional seat. It can also be converted back to a single pram when your older child is no longer able to use it.

Tandem prams come in a variety of configurations with the option of infants to sleep in a bassinet of the pram on top, while an older child sits in the seat below. Most tandem prams can be converted to an a travel pushchair system by putting an automobile capsule to the top seat.

A double stroller that is side-by-side allows the children to ride together and talk as they go. This can help to avoid them waking each other up or fighting over toys, while the fact they're seated near to one another makes it possible to get through doors and other obstacles with ease.

A side-by-side is also the ideal choice for grandparents looking to join in on the fun. They can both push the kids around and help out with shopping, running errands, parent Facing Pushchair or attending events. They're usually cheaper than tandem prams, making them an excellent choice for grandparents to assist with babysitting.

Single prams

A single pram is only able to allow one seat or a bassinet/carry cot. It is typically suitable from newborn through to approx. Four years old. Many single prams also allow a toddler board to be attached to the back of the stroller, so that the second child can sit or stand (depending on the type of toddler board) while you push the stroller forward.

Some first-time parents decide to future-proof the pram they purchase by purchasing double options like our DUO2. It can be used in a single mode until you have your second child and then switch it to a tandem inline double pram when the second baby is born. This will eliminate the hassle and cost of purchasing an additional double stroller.

Tandem or in-line double prams are a bit wider than side by side double prams, but they are more maneuverable on busy pedestrian paths and in shops. However, they can be more difficult to use during running, and require more effort to push when climbing or descending hills.

Side by side prams are larger than tandem or in-line double prams. They are a good option if you plan to have 2 children close in age. They will be able to view and interact with one another from their seats. They are less maneuverable than tandem strollers, and may not be able to pass through doors as easily.

Non-convertible side by side sale prams are not usable in single mode - you will have to buy a new pram or stroller for your youngest child. They offer the benefit of being a cheaper option and last longer than convertible double prams, as they are not built to be used in both single and double modes. The biggest drawback is that your older child will eventually outgrow the side-byside seat and will have to be moved to a toddler's chair, which can be costly.
