A high-quality robot vacuum can make a huge difference in keeping allergens like pet hair and dust under control. Different models are not identical.

There are a variety of options to choose from for you to choose from, whether you need an animal-friendly vacuum or a robot to work with your other cleaner.

1. Eufy RoboVac Edge G30

The G30 Edge, the latest model in Eufy's budget series of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most current model. The G30 Edge is a shining black vacuum cleaner that has pink and blue accents. It's akin to a smartphone. It's easier to use than past models and offers features such as BoostIQ which automatically increases suction power to ensure better cleaning of all surfaces. It also makes use of intelligent navigation to avoid repeating the same spots repeatedly, a common problem when using bounce-navigation systems.

It does a very good job of picking up pet hair and crumbs off hard floors, but lags behind the best self vacuum for pet hair models in scooping up flour on carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the dust on hard floors and 26 percent on carpet which is a bit disappointing.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map out your home using an electronic map. This allows it to remember which rooms it has cleaned previously and prevents it from returning to those rooms which is a major problem with more basic robots that rely on the use of magnetic tape to define areas that are not allowed to enter.

The G30 Edge also has other advantages. It comes with a "Find My Robot" mode that emits loud music until it is located, and a directional keypad that lets you move the robot. It also comes with an automatic return feature that sends the robot back to its charging station if the battery is low. This is a security feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape robot is a powerful machine with a long list of intelligent features. It can clean floors well and climb up carpets with high piles effortlessly. The app also offers advanced features like boundary lines, remote control access while the robot is in operation, and a range of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of robots from Neato and is distinguished by its unique "D" shape when seen from above. The design offers a number of advantages such as better corner cleaning and a bigger dust bin than most other models. The D-shape also allows the robot to reach under furniture better than robots with a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly pause before starting a cleaning cycle using a spinning infrared camera to assess and scan the area. It will then begin cleaning in a grid and move in a systematic manner from one area to the next until the floor is completely covered. This method of cleaning is more effective and thorough than the random approach employed by other companies.

The D-Shape's design allows it to have a large 700ml dust container as opposed to 400-600ml for robots of the same price. This increased capacity means that you'll have to empty the bin less often, thereby saving you time and effort. The D-Shape also has flat front that helps it navigate around obstacles like tables and chairs. In our tests the D-Shape did end up getting stuck under a four-legged stool and an electrical cord that was not covered however it was able to break free every time.

3. Roomba i3+ EVO

The Roomba EVO i3+ is a fantastic option for pet owners. It is a great choice for hard floors and does a great job of removing the traces of cereal, rice and hair of pets. It isn't as good on carpets however, it is still superior than other robots at this price point. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also extremely efficient in navigating between different flooring types and doesn't get caught on transitions like older models do. The dual multi-surface rubber brushes flex to adjust to different flooring and resist the tangles in pet hair.

The i3+ EVO has a weaker obstacle avoidance capability than the other robots that we evaluated. It repeatedly hit objects such as handbags, pet toys and shoes before retracing its course. It also had trouble dealing with salt that was coarse that it blew over and around rather than picking up.

The i3+ EVO comes with a host of features that make it well worth the extra money over other Roomba models. This includes an automatic emptying bin as well as advanced control through an app. You can schedule cleanings, set custom routines, and create zones that do not want the robot vacuum and mop for pet hair to access. Its smart scheduling can even suggest additional cleanings during peak allergy times, in accordance with your routine. Its navigation system is unreliable however, and often vacuums in irregular lines, such as diagonals or zigzags, rather than parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty XL

With a detailed mapping technology, this smart robot knows your home better than you can. It has dual brushes which adapt to different types of floors and are able to avoid tangling. This makes it a great option for homes with pets. The app allows you to control the robot or activate it with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The dock, dubbed Omni, automates tasks such as refilling and cleaning robot's water tanks, emptying debris bins, and charging and drying the mop pads.

It's a fantastic value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL offers numerous advanced features, including self-emptying bins and mapping that can hold a lot of debris. We tried it out in a home with a mix between bare carpet and low-pile flooring and found it to maneuver and clean exceptionally well, even getting into corners. The vacuum mop pet hair does a great job of removing pet hair on carpeting. However it's not as powerful much power as our top choices.

However the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, requires less time to recharge than the Shark, and provides a wider range of automated and scheduling options, including support for no-go zones. Shark is still a great option if you're looking for something cheaper or prefer to manage and control your system with your smartphone instead of a remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Wet and Dry

This robot is capable of both vacuuming and mopping. The two tank system is powerful and can vacuum or mop with the push of one button. In our tests, it was able to easily switch between surfaces and was excellent at getting pet fur off hardwood floors and carpets. It also has an edge-sweeping tool to remove cat hair from baseboards and walls.

This is a great option if you're looking for a model that's affordable and comes with additional features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease in our testing and can be controlled by an app or by speaking. It has a large dustbin for the collection of messes before they are full. The only drawback is that it could take up to 166 minutes to complete its task however that's still much better than the majority of robots we've tested.

This robot's front-facing camera allows you to monitor the cleanliness of your home's cleanliness on a map using an app. This is especially useful when you're trying to locate a particular object or if your kids have spilled glitter from your decorations all over your floor. You can avoid much frustration by finding the missing item quickly. The lithium batteries that are fade-free can last up to 130 minutes on one charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 is an upscale-looking robot that provides good cleaning. It is very adept at maneuvering itself and is able to move under furniture without becoming stuck. It's also great for carpets and rugs with low pile. It can get stuck on rug tassels and it is unable to navigate small spaces such as corners. It also has difficulty getting pet hair off all surfaces.

The 694 is still better than the majority of its competitors despite the limited features. It got a perfect score of 10 in our cereal carpet test, and passed our test for cat litter with just a few stray pieces. It's not as efficient on hardwood floors. Its side brush often scatters large, clinging cereal bits instead of sweeping them away. It also had difficulty collecting table salt on unfinished floor, as lots of grains slid across the floor.

It does support app control through the iRobot HOME app, as well as voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, which is sold separately). It identifies your cleaning habits and gives you a customized schedule. Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool ensure that it gets into difficult-to-reach areas, while Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to spots that are heavily soiled.
