Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service is private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history, as well as an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial in your case. This will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your clinician will explain what is titration in adhd medication options are available and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will recommend titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process could take a few weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's dosage until the appropriate balance is reached. It is crucial that parents are involved in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can inform doctors whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted through a zoom video call. In some circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose, as well as any adverse effects you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration process adhd consultations is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The cost of medication is additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

It is important that you are honest and transparent to the doctor during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD meets the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial step because an incorrect diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

If you've decided that you would like to be treated for your ADHD, we will then arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this field. If you'd like to begin treatment immediately, you can do this immediately following the diagnosis. Or you can wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.

We suggest that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different policies on whether they require a GP letter. Make sure that your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic to get a prescriptions for medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral part of the journey for many people looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't easy to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. One way to get around this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can select one that provides a private assessment and titration service. Once you have been referred through this route the doctor you choose will examine you and decide whether or not you require to be titrated on medication. You will need to fill out forms that are different for each provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting questionnaires and medical histories that go back to childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any conditions that could suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, this will usually consist of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. They will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you, taking into consideration any current conditions you suffer from. The titration process can be long and may require multiple appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will be contingent on the type and quantity of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor checking to see if you are taking the correct medication, noting any adverse effects you've experienced and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You will also be required to attend a routine health check which can include blood pressure, pulse and weight readings and an annual review.

For some it could be that they are satisfied with their medication and don't need a further discussion about their titration process adhd. If you're required to discuss your titration or treatment plan more thoroughly it is possible that you'll be sent to the private clinic that performed your initial evaluation. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be part of their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication on an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This can cost more than an NHS prescription since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
