Always work on your key fob in a location that is secure and safe.

Water Damage

You may think that your key fob is damaged if you drop it in the pool or accidentally wash it. However, there's still a chance. The issue begins when the circuit board in the fob is in contact with water. It creates an excellent conductor and cuts off components. It also speeds up the process of corrosion and rust.

This is a simple fix. Find something absorbent, and put it inside the fob - paper towl or tissue works well. Then apply a cotton swab that has been soaked in isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the circuit board and other components to clean out any residues of acid from batteries and contamination. Let the fob dry out for several days in a warm and dry environment.

After the fob has dried out, replace the battery with a new one (of the same size and the same polarity ('+' directed upwards). The fob may be difficult opening to access the battery, but when you have a flat head screwdriver in your toolbox, it should be easy to slide in. After the fob has been reassembled it should function like normal. If it doesn't work, you'll require reprogramming it or replace the receiver module.

Radio Interference

If a keyfob works properly, it sends out an audio frequency that is picked up by a receiver module inside your vehicle. If the signal is disrupted the key fob will not function.
