Buying a Double Buggy From Birth

There are plenty of factors to consider when selecting the ideal double buggy right from birth. We spoke with Fourth Trimester postnatal retreat expert Katie Billingsley for her advice on everything from seating options, age ranges to folding mechanisms and storage space.

This buggy is an essential item for active families. It grows with your family, from twins to toddlers. It is lightweight, has great maneuverability and can maneuver through uneven all terrain double buggy with ease.

What type of buggy would you prefer?

A double buggy is ideal for transporting two children, not necessarily of the same age, side by side. They can also serve as prams and have a reclining mechanism within each seat, allowing your children can sit or lie down in various positions. They're often spacious enough to store everything from snacks and drinks to nappies and wipes. They're usually lightweight, easy to fold and are compact enough to fit in the car boot. If you're a frequent driver, it's worth checking that the buggy's maneuverability using the folded wheels, and also to get out and back into your boot.

The most well-known type of double buggy is the side-by-side, which you've probably seen on other mums pushchairs, or perhaps ridden in as a child. Do you have twins?

Double buggys are the ideal method of transporting your children, no matter if they are twins or older siblings. There are two types of double buggies: tandem buggies where one child sits above the other, and side by side buggies. Both can accommodate two fixed seats, but side-by-side buggies are typically narrower in size to fit through doors. Tandems tend to be wider in general. Do you have a child?

Having a younger sibling can feel like quite an overwhelming responsibility at first, especially when you need to be attentive to the infant. It can also give your child the feeling of pride that comes with knowing that they get to be 'big brother or sister' and help them settle into their role.
