Cultural Appropriation and Donkeys

The domestic donkey (Equus Africanus asinus) is a hoof-mammal that belongs to the family Equidae. Originally from Africa The domestic donkey derives from the African wild ass. Depending on the species, domestic donkeys can be classified as a subspecies or as a distinct species.

Arse vs. ass

Appropriateness in popular culture

There are many instances in which a dominant culture adopts elements from the culture of a minority. This practice, known as cultural appropriation, could cause feelings of disdain in minority groups. Many Black people feel this is a patronizing behaviour, whether wearing an Native American headdress to a event or in blackface for Halloween.

In addition to incorporating elements of cultures that are not native to the minority the dominant group may also take advantage of intellectual property from the minority group. This can be done by blackfishing, for instance. It is important to consider that people with color have a history being marginalized and deprived of rights. For example, when you see a person of color dressed in blackface for Halloween it is important to consider the history of black people being excluded.
