It also did a great job of navigating between furniture and objects although it struggled a bit with stairs, where it can accidentally crash into things like bookcases.

The S9's ability to automatically return to its base and empty its dust bin when it is full was a great feature. It reduced the need for manual maintenance. The dust bin is expected to last for around 30 loads or a month and a half. You'll need to replace the filter periodically (as recommended by iRobot). We've found that the iRobot S9+ doesn't get extremely loud when it's in use which makes it a good option for those living with pets or children.

Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Created to eliminate one of the most difficult tasks off your hands, robot vacuum cleaners can do all the work to get hardwood and carpeted floors free of every day debris. The best ones can be monitored and controlled via a smartphone app, and some even have mopping technology for kitchen and bathroom floors. They're a great choice for busy families and are becoming more affordable. If you want top-of-the-line features for your robotic vacuum cleaner, you'll need to pay a little more.

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is a fantastic option for those who live in a multi-floored apartment. Its dual motors offer an impressive cleaning capacity and the 0.6l dust bin can hold a lot of pet hair. The dustbin can be easily removed and empty, which is great because you'll have to do this regularly.

It's also easy to set it up, though I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the first time. Install the Eufy Home application and follow the instructions to connect it to your WiFi network. The app will then help you to create a map of your house. You can label the rooms, divide large areas into sub-rooms to facilitate open-plan living, and direct the X8 Hybrid towards specific areas in need of cleaning at a certain time. Eufy's app is more user-friendly and refined than other robots that have similar scanning and mapping functions.

One of the great features of the X8 Hybrid is that you can control the mop or vacuum using your voice, thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. This is a nice feature that makes the robot hands-free. It was a success in our test home.

As with many robotic vacuums the X8 Hybrid has some issues with floors that are not clean. It is prone to miss pet hair and other small objects, and is more likely to hit objects - like its own charger at the charging base. It's also not as quiet and the whirring sound could be distracting as with other models.

Roborock V3S Pro

This robot isn't as feature-rich as some of the more expensive models we evaluated but it does come with the basics. It has a big enough dust bin to hold a lot of dirt before it's time to empty it and its vacuum and mop system is great for hard floors and low-pile carpets. It's also extremely quiet. We were able to watch television while it was cleaning without feeling like we were being bombarded with the sound.

Our test participants were extremely pleased by how easy the machine was to operate and set up. They also loved its ability to remove all the mess from their floors. It even did a pretty good job of picking up pet hair and messes from carpeting, but it was less successful in tackling stubborn stuck-on stains. The app was simple to use and easy to understand. They were able set up the vacuum to clean frequently to minimize the amount of manual work. The only drawback is that it does not have any mapping technology or object avoidance, so you can't direct it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips are compatible).

The V3S Pro is another model in iRobot’s affordable line. It comes with some impressive features at an affordable price. It was the best of all robotic vacuums we tested in terms of mapping and avoiding obstacles, and is the ideal budget pick for those who want a smarter self-emptying robot vacuum that is able to handle pet hair and messes both on carpets with low pile and hardwood floors. It's also extremely quiet and has a large dust bin that can hold plenty of debris prior to when it's time to empty it and you don't have to worry about regularly emptying it.

The V3S Pro did not make it into any of our top picks lists from trusted sources who perform hands-on tests, but it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. The V3S Pro was easy to use and set up, but the battery life was a bit short.

Roborock Q Revo

The Q Revo is a solid entry-level robot vacuum and mop that isn't slack on features or cost. You can get many of the premium features, such as smart navigation and mapping without paying top dollar. You can also make use of voice commands through Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple Siri shortcuts to create custom automations and start your cleaning routine remotely while you're away.

Roborock has taken its time creating this clever cleaner. It is extremely well-constructed, and it feels like top quality materials were used in the making of it. Its base is stable and sturdy, with an integrated charging port for the battery. On the top is the dock for the clean water tank and dirty water bins. Under them, you'll discover an area that houses the vacuum bag sealed.

After you have connected your device to the application, you'll see a 3D and 2D map of your house that will show you where your robot is at any time and what area it is cleaning. You can also set up virtual barriers to ensure that the robot isn't in certain areas, and make sure it's only cleaning certain kinds of floors. It's also able to adjust its power settings according to the type of floor being cleaned, and choosing the most efficient method of cleaning.

There isn't an automatic reminder to check the level of water at the dock.
