Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs are the multi-functional, flexible allies of parents and caregivers. They're the co-pilots of the new journey of your child.

A pram newborn is designed for newborns and babies and has the most solid, sturdy carrycot with soft and safe walls.

A pram is equipped with a bassinet, however it can also be converted into a stroller once the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns are extremely fragile and must be kept as safe as possible. A stroller or pram that has safety features will keep your baby secure and comfortable while traveling. A stroller or pram must have a break that works, a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and the crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person pushing it. Make sure that the pram you choose is up to the standards before you purchase.

Look for a pram that allows your infant to be seated in the suggested lie-flat position. This position is supportive for the baby and helps prevent a potentially dangerous curve in the spine which can cause spinal problems. It reduces the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation, by keeping the airways clear. Most prams that are used from birth will have an infant seat that can recline into a lie-flat pram mode for younger babies and then convert into a pushchair with car seat seat unit for older children.

The suspension of a pram is important because it affects how smooth the ride is. A pram that has many spring suspensions will cost more however it is worth the extra cost when you intend to use your pram every for a while or more.

Always read the instructions and carefully read the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not in use, Baby Accessories keep your stroller away from any potential hazards like bicycles, traffic or other people. It is recommended to take any bags or other items off the handles, as they could cause your baby to get trapped or even die.

Even if your baby is asleep, it's never a good idea to leave a pram or stroller unattended. They could wriggle into the stroller and become trapped, or be pushed away and cause injuries. Hanging bags or other objects from the handles isn't recommended since they could fall and hit your child in the head.

Comfort

Having the option of lie flat seating is an absolute essential for infants as it promotes better lung and back development. Cocoons or carrycots are available on a variety of prams. They create a nest-like environment that is comfortable for your baby and can be detached easily from the frame. Others, such as the egg2's bucket-style seat do not recline to lay flat, but provide a comfy ride for your baby.

Some prams come with an additional bassinet or seat for infants. This allows you to easily switch between the sitting and sleeping positions based on the needs of your baby. This is sometimes called a "travel system" and is the first option to try out with your baby.

Choose a stroller with two shoulder straps (ideally padded) and a sturdy five-point safety harness that fits your baby's body safely. Be sure that there aren't any gaps or areas that are loose in which fingers can get caught, and that the buckles are comfortable to use, particularly for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd like a pram with a parent-facing feature or not - it's ideal to watch your child and Baby Accessories helping children feel secure with the familiar sight of their parents.

Convenience

When you are shopping for a new baby's pram, it is essential to consider your baby's transport needs. Some prams come with an infant bassinet, carrycot or a seat that reclines to a flat position. This is essential to ensure your baby's spinal development and breathing. It is important to check what other accessories are included in the pram, such as a footmuff and changing bag. These are essential for keeping your baby warm when it's cold.

Some strollers and prams can be converted into travel systems. You can connect an auto pod to the frame with adaptors so that you can move your child from the car to the pushchair without disturbing them. These can be useful if you have a busy schedule or don't have the big enough boot for pram capsules, but it's important to keep in mind that your baby must be old enough and able to sit independently before you can switch between the car capsule and pram.

Another feature to look out for is the ability to raise and lower your infant's seat from a low to high setting, which allows you to maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you, which our tester for parents found very useful for her 10-month old boy! You should also be able to keep shopping bags and changing bags in the basket beneath. You should be able store bags for changing and shopping beneath the pram (but keep in mind that excessive weight could cause it to tip over).
