Private ADHD Titration

There is a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and increased global demand.

Our service can provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, as well as an assessment using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation, you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or by phone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take several weeks, and requires gradually altering your child’s medication until the right balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medicines before you can find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It is crucial that parents participate in the titration for adhd and be aware of their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know if the medication is helping or causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to book follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if necessary. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call however in some instances it may be possible to do an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

We will then go over treatment options and choose an individualised, bespoke ADHD medication titration. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and a discussion of any possible adverse effects you may be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is essential to examine any family history that could indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

It is crucial to be honest and transparent with the clinician during the assessment, since the information they receive will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential part of the process, because if you don't do it, it could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication.

If you've decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. This can be scheduled within the first few days of your diagnosis if are eager to begin treatment immediately or titrating within two weeks if you prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives available to you.

We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk to your GP prior to booking your private appointment. Some providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is an integral part of the journey for many people who are seeking a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain an appointment with a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers an assessment and titration. This can cut down on wait time significantly and what is adhd titration more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.

After you have been diagnosed, your doctor will examine your condition to determine if you require medication adjustment. You'll have to complete forms that are different for each provider but the most frequent ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories that go to childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any factors that might mean you shouldn't take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. These will be carefully assessed and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration procedure can be a lengthy process and may require several extra appointments before your dose is stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments is contingent on the type and quantity of medication that you are taking. They can be monthly or quarterly. The appointment will involve your doctor making sure that you are taking the correct medication, recording any side effects you've experienced, and making any necessary adjustments to ensure you are on a safe dosage. You will be required to attend an annual review and a routine health examination which includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

For some individuals, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't require any further discussion on their titration. If, however, they require further discussions regarding the titration process and treatment plan, it's possible to be referred back to the same private clinic that made their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in their consultation fee, and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
