Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)

The Register of Exercise Professionals is a UK scheme for fitness instructors and trainers. It recognises industry-based qualifications and also provides insurance for public liability and requires members to adhere to an industry-specific code of practice.

Its goal is to protect the public's interest in using the services of fitness professionals by ensuring that they possess all the relevant expertise, technical know-how training, and insurance. It is also responsible for maintaining and developing standards for professionals in the industry.

The association integrates input from a variety of stakeholders including employers deployers and NGBs as in higher education institutions, training providers, and professionals to shape the sector, and assist its professionals and workforce. This is achieved by working in partnership with the industry to understand and recognize the requirements of the profession as well as the obstacles that hinder its ability to deliver.

This is due to the fact that REPs is not a governing organization, rather an industry-based association that is mostly voluntary to join. Top international certification bodies like ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, NASM, and ACE are not affiliated with REPs and will therefore never guarantee employment or insurance coverage to their fitness professionals.

However REPs is committed to making sure that their members are up to date with the constantly changing trends in the fitness industry. REPs uses an REPs points system that requires members to accumulate a certain amount of REPs each year to maintain their REPs status. These REPs are dependent on the level of qualifications the member has and how many CPD courses they have taken.
