For audio enthusiasts who really know their stuff The headphones can be used in DAC mode, which bypasses internal processing and provides better sound quality than Bluetooth headphones with their built-in DAC. Focal declined to reveal the specific DAC they used, but when tested with a high-quality portable DAC/headphone amp, the Bathys delivered great results--including better-than-CD-quality resolution, tight bass, and an open, airy midrange.

The Opus is the first effort by Razer to create a headphone that is a lifestyle. It's a great product. Its target market is likely to be much broader than gamers and offers a quality that rivals top-of-the-line models from Sony and Bose at a reasonable price.

The design is a bit restrained by Razer standards: no RGB lighting or signature green accents as well as the Tri-Snake logo is not to be visible. Instead, the headset appears similar to other Bluetooth headphones, with semicircle hinges that swivel and fold flat on the top of the earcups, creating an incredibly comfortable headband. The headsets are also lighter and more portable than most gaming headphones, weighing only 265g when folded.

The Opus bass has an intense, well-rounded and punchy sound with depth and clarity that you won't get from many budget headphones. It's not quite as full as the sound of Bose's Extra Bass headphones, but it still exceeds expectations for headphones in the $200 price range. The mids are a solid sound and vocals and lead instruments can be heard with good clarity. I did notice a little veiledness in the highs however switching the EQ to Vocal solved the issue.

As a bonus, you'll find a 3.5mm analog cable as well as a USB-C to-A adapter inside the carrying case, along with an ordinary airplane audio jack for those that haven't yet switched to all-cable audio. It's a tiny but appreciated addition that makes it much easier to use the headphones when traveling.

The Opus was a success, just like other THX certified products. I was able walk around town without having raise the volume in order to block background noise and I never felt like I needed to turn my music up to hear it. This is the kind of quality that can help you avoid hearing loss as a result of excessive exposure to high-frequency frequencies.
