When analyzing body language it is essential to consider the culture of the person who is being observed. If the individual is from a different culture then you may not recognize the signal.

There are also subtle movements that could be overlooked. If a person is able to cross their legs to one side it could be due to the fact that they have a knee problem.

The ancient Greeks, Romans, and other cultures were studying body language for a long time. They realized that certain gestures have more meaning than others.

Since the beginning, philosophers and scientists have looked into the relationship between body language and meaning. Although body language is a part of nature and nurture, there is no proof that it is possible to "fake" it.

Metaphorical aspects

A metaphor is an approach to explain a brand new product. In an analogy, a character compares to another idea, object , or even setting. The goal is to show that the two are in fact connected.

In the field of user interface design metaphors are becoming more important. They allow users to transfer their existing knowledge into the new system. These metaphors can also cut down on time to learn.

However, it is crucial to choose the right metaphor. For instance some metaphors are simple and others are more complicated. This makes it necessary to be able to assess the users understanding.

A designer must be able to identify the source of a metaphor before incorporating it into the design of a product. The scope of the work is also crucial.

The metaphor can also have influence on the design of the display. Designers must be aware of the different styles that can be used to create the metaphor. Some examples are shown in the accompanying Figures.
