It is designed to stop thieves from adding an ignition key or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and price drive it off. Ghost is connected to your CAN network and uses buttons on your vehicle to generate an unique push-sequence which must be entered before your engine can begin.

Once the anti-hijacking mode is activated the attempt to restart the engine will be blocked. The system will honk the horn, flash the indicators and stop the vehicle when the code isn't found. The Anti-Hijack feature can be removed by entering your push sequence or by entering service mode which allows your car to start and drive without having to enter your PIN.

If you own a GPS device linked up to your BMW it is possible to use it to turn off the Anti-Hijack feature so you can still use the navigation system inside your car whilst the vehicle is parked and unsupervised. You can also use your smartphone to control the anti theft feature and other functions.

The system allows you to start the vehicle, select drive and quit the service mode without the need to use your key fobs. You can also track your vehicle's location on an interactive map on your smartphone.

The Ghost can be installed under the dashboard, or in the center console. It is completely concealed and tamper-proof. It doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personal pin code is inserted into it. The pin code must be entered prior to the engine starting. This stops thieves from gaining access to the system by using a cloned or replaced ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen the Ghost will enter service mode and stop all functions unless you have a PIN code or the mobile application to disarm it. This feature was designed to protect you vehicle from high-tech thieves who employ relay boxes to take it.
