They are light and have a soft carrying bag and fold flat to fit into your bag. The controls are easy to use and intuitive, and their battery can last for 30 hours with ANC turned off. They even have an auto-pause feature which turns off your headphones once they are removed from your head in order to save battery.

The WH1000XM5 is compatible with Sony Headphones Connect, which includes a range of features that can be used to tailor the audio experience. The app can be used to track your location and tailor the sound quality of the environment you are in. The microphone is included for hands-free phone calls. The Sony WH1000XM5 is able to play music wirelessly through Bluetooth or wired using the cable included. They can support aptX, HD aptX and aptX Adaptive to provide high-quality audio via Bluetooth.

Similar to the XM4 The WH-1000XM5 is light and comfortable with a well-padded headband and ear cups. They are comfortable to wear and are suitable for long periods. They are also ideal for long flights and commutes. They're noise cancelling headphones that can cut down background noise but not sacrifice clarity or clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones have a good amount of bass, particularly for closed-back models. They also provide excellent soundstages and clear separation between instruments and vocals.

They have a very low latency for watching videos which is a benefit. The lag is so tiny that it's almost imperceptible and they can be used for casual gaming. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine upscales compressed audio to near-high-resolution quality. They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology that streams higher-bitrate audio over ear headphones wireless Bluetooth (although not as hi-res as a dedicated headphone DAC).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Since the launch of its first-generation PX7 in 2015, Bowers & Wilkins' flagship headphones have often been featured on top lists of wireless on ear headphones headsets which puts them in the same class with the likes of Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort. The PX7 S2 is the latest version that takes the original headphones to the next level, with improved ANC performance as well as a new design.

In the earcups, the 40mm bio cellulose drivers are designed to be angled so that they point straight towards your eardrums to deliver an audio experience that's more intimate than most closed-back headphones can manage. This is a bold claim, but one that the PX7 S2 can deliver on. The vocals are clear, and the bass is deep when needed.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well in voice calls, with a crisp and clear sound that doesn't drown out your own voice. They also come with a quick charge that gets you back to full power in less than two hours. Furthermore, they're compatible with high-resolution audio, due to an adaptive Bluetooth codec that enables the playback of 24-bit music.

The noise-canceling technology as well as improved audio performance are the most important improvements for the majority of listeners. In our tests, we were able to eliminate nearly all of the airplane noises simulated by the PX7 S2. They also performed exceptionally well in Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus which offer excellent insight into the changing dynamics between the solo vocal, the wind trio and orchestral accompaniment.

The PX7 S2s are not only noise-cancelling, they also come with a range of other features that make them comparable to other top-rated headphones wireless. They are fully wireless and feature Bluetooth multipoint support, which means you can pair them with two devices simultaneously. They also come with an inbuilt microphone which allows hands-free calls while using your phone's assistant. They're also incredibly robust, with premium-feeling and Beats Studio 3 Headphones Wireless durable construction that will last for a long time of regular use.

They're not perfect, of course. The clamp force on our test models was a bit more pronounced than we'd like, and there aren't as many additional app features available as some other models, but these aren't major issues. The PX7 S2s is a superb wireless headset that rivals other headsets in its class. It's hard to imagine a rival beating them.

Focal Bathys is the ideal choice for audiophiles that value high-quality sound and are in search of an ANC headphone that is wireless. They're the French audio company's first-ever ANC headphones that use Bluetooth and provide incredible audio quality in both Bluetooth mode and when connected to the device via USB to enjoy hi-fi quality sound at up to 24 bits/192kHz (the headset is also capable of passively blocking external audio with its closed ear cups).

The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures that similar to Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. They also feature premium materials like aluminum and magnesium for solid construction that is comfortable, solid and worth the cost.

In Bluetooth mode in Bluetooth mode, the Bathys deliver a crisp and lively sound signature that easily surpasses similarly priced consumer ANC options like the Bose QC45. They can be improved further by using direct DAC audio mode, making them a great choice for those who love hi-fi.

The Focal &Naim app allows users to alter the headphone's playback controls as well as Bluetooth pairing preferences. You can select between quiet or soft intensities for ANC as well as adjust the brightness of the LEDs that are on the earcups, and alter the EQ settings. The app isn't complete however it provides enough features to warrant the cost of downloading.

The only issue is the active noise cancellation, which isn't able to live up to the quality of the competition. The headphone isn't able to block out all of the ambient noise like the most rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its treble accuracy is subpar, with a muddy mid to high range that detracts from vocals and instruments.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones. Their earcups don't fold up and they weigh a bit more than other models, meaning they're not the best choice for use on the road. They're ideal for a home environment where they can be used for long listening sessions or as an audio reference headphone for engineering purposes. Despite their size and bulk they Bathys are surprisingly comfortable to wear for prolonged durations of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WHCH720N is fantastic pair of wireless over-ear headsets at a reasonable price. They feature a great noise-cancelling technology that is capable of reducing ambient noise, making them perfect for commuters and travellers. They also offer a nice design that reflects premium quality, thanks to their robust construction and attractive matte finish.

They have a similar look to Sony's 1000X and XB910N earphone models. They have a slim, plastic headband that has the typical ear cups hinges. They are light and comfortable, however they're a bit tight for my taste. In the box, they have a USB-C port for charging and an 3.5mm connector, and a decent-length cable. They allow multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means that you can connect them to two devices simultaneously, if you wish.

In my tests, the CH720N's hybrid noise cancelling technology did great job of reducing background noise, with just few noticeable blips in walking around Waterloo station and London Victoria. These weren't magical sound-silencers which blocked out every sound, however, they struggled with lower-frequency noises like the rumbling engine noise of trains and buses.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and showed a low level harmonic distortion. I tried a range of genres and found they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments quite well. It did an excellent job of reducing the bass in rock tracks, and keeping the mix focused.

I like the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to tailor the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to your liking, as well as add a variety of audio presets. You can also utilize the app to activate DSEE which can boost the quality of compressed content and enhances its sound quality.

While the WH-CH720N does not have a few of Sony's primetime functions compared to the XM5 (such as Speak-to -Chat and Quick Attention) they do offer a robust set of features available for PS130. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and the DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support which I believe would have been a great inclusion.
