Best Over-Ear Headphones

Over-ear headphones cover your ears and plunge you in the sound. They tend to be tuned for audiophiles and come with features like active noise cancellation and control apps.

The WH-1000XM5 comes with a distinct sound signature that has been designed to satisfy both casual music lovers as also serious audiophiles. It is tuned with a slight focus in bass, yet it is not harsh or blazing. The earphones headphones feature a wide and open soundstage, with good instrument separation. They can also reproduce precise time gradations, which is an added bonus.

The HD 800 S are a pair of exceptional headphones, ideal for audiophiles and professionals. Their impressive sonic performance and comfortable fit make them an excellent option. They are expensive however, you're getting a pair of headphones that will last for years to be used and perform at their best in any situation.

Anker Soundcore Life Q20

The Anker Soundcore Q20 is a decent pair of headphones for those looking to pass the time or simply need a pair of affordable noise cancelling headphones. They come with a basic pouch that provides protection when you throw them in a bag and their battery is capable of lasting several long haul flights. Their ANC does a great job of blocking out chattering seatmates and engine rumbles on the plane, but their audio profile is a little warmer and bass-heavy.

The controls on the Life Q20 are well-marked and easy to use. On the left earcup, you'll find buttons for pairing and powering up the headphones as well as turning on or off the active noise cancellation. On the right earcup, there are controls for playback of media. This includes a multi-function button that activates the phone's voice assistant and also turns on Anker BassUp (more about this later). The built-in microphone can be used to make hands-free phone calls.
