Types of Asbestos

All six types of amorphous asbestos are found in nature as bundles of thin fibrous fibres that are durable. They are resistant to heat, fire chemical and electrical conductivity. They have a high tensile and wear strength. Asbestos has been used in a variety of products like flooring tiles, insulation, paint, and heat-resistant fabrics.

Chrysotile

Chrysotile also known as white asbestos was the most widely used form of the mineral that was used in a variety of products before it was banned in the 1980s. It was popular because it was fireproof, affordable and durable. It was later discovered to be extremely harmful and linked to mesothelioma-related diseases. While some countries continue to make use of asbestos, a complete worldwide ban is needed now.

Asbestos can be found in many products, including asbestos cement pipes sheets, sheets, friction materials used for coatings, car brakes and gaskets.
