In addition, the WH-1000XM4s can connect to two Bluetooth devices at the same time and switch between them as needed. You enable this feature through the Sony Headphones Connect app and it works flawlessly.

A subtle improvement over the XM3 is the sensibility of their touch panels. They respond faster to a tap on a panel, and this makes them easier to control during a call or to listen to media. Sony also included an option that makes voices sound more clear and precise on calls, which is noticeable and a nice addition.

The WH-1000XM4s may not be perfect, but they're among the top wireless headphones we've ever tested. They're comfortable and well-constructed, and come with a a battery that can last for more than 30 continuous hours. They can also be used in a passive manner with a TRS cable which is perfect if you're traveling or need to conserve power.

The WH1000XM4s provide a superior alternative to the Bowers & Wilkins Wireless best over ear headphones wireless under 100-Ears PX7 S2. The Sonys are more comfy, and their ANC can block out more ambient sound. They also come with a companion app that lets you tweak their audio performance, and their EQ settings are more flexible than the B&W's. However, the B&Ws come with an improved design, and over the ear headphones wireless noise cancelling they're able to pair with two Bluetooth devices at once. Additionally, they support aptX HD and feature an AI-driven engine which attempts to boost compressed music to high-resolution. This is called DSEE Extreme, and it enhances the clarity of music when listening to lossless audio files.

The QC45s also include four microphones built into the headset to hear your voice when you make calls. The quality of calls is generally very good however, the headphones don't come with the handy ability to mute your voice while playing back which is something that other wireless headphones do. Update: A firmware update for the QC45s came out in February 2022 introduced manual EQ options to the audio app. This is a very welcome change.

Focal is a French audio company known for high-performance headphones that provide long-lasting comfort and a style that makes listeners feel like they're listening to something special. The Bathys are their first wireless noise-cancelling headphones. They look and sound stunning. They also come with an inbuilt high-performance USB DAC which means you can use them for wireless and wired listening.

The Bathys have a very good battery performance with Focal claiming 30 hours of continuous Bluetooth playtime. We had more than 40 hours of playback time on average from just one charge. If you need to recharge, there's a light on the right earcup that will change to red when the headphone needs to be charged.

For headphones for this price, they offer a lot of features. They support multiple devices simultaneously and have automatic pairing. (You will need to select your source device each time you listen.) They come with a built-in microphone that supports voice assistants like Siri or Alexa. They also come with an intuitive interface that makes it easy to manage your music and make calls.

For wireless headphones that are over-ear The Bathys excel in our tests of noise cancellation, which reduces the background sound by around 9 decibels per hour on average. It's not as impressive as the ANC in the Bose QuietComfort 45/QC45 Wireless but it's still fairly effective.

In our tests of the quality of sound from headphones The Bathys did well overall, with a a frequency response that mostly matches the SoundGuys headphone preference curve, with only minor deviations in the bass and mids. They have a deep, bass-filled sound profile which adds plenty of boom to the mix, but can sometimes make instruments and vocals like cymbals seem a bit veiled.

You can wear them anywhere without worrying that others will listen to your music. The microphone is able to be used for recording via Bluetooth with only a slight distortion between the mid-treble as well as the treble.

4. Sennheiser Momentum 4

The Sennheiser Momentum Wireless are a new update to the company's top-of-the-line Bluetooth headphones. The previous model, the Momentum 3, was a solid but unspectacular entry into the category. The latest pair is a step up from the previous generation, with a sleeker look, improved gesture control, and a huge battery life.

The changes are subtle but can make for an over-ear pair of headphones that feel like an upgrade. The Momentum 4s are flat and don't fold. They come with an outer case that protects them while on the move. The Momentum 4s are also compatible with all devices, just like other Bluetooth headphones from recent years, such as those from Bowers & Wilkins and Sony. They can be used with Apple iPhones and Android phones, but they do not have the AirPods additional features such as Find My Support and head-tracked spatial audio.

The most obvious improvement in this model is the huge battery, which promises up to 60 hours of playback with noise cancellation turned on. That's easily double what most of the competition can offer and is enough for a multi-day trip without worrying about finding an outlet to charge them up.

Engadget senior editor Billy Steele gave the headphones an 82 rating and cited their sound quality and ANC as their main strengths. His only complaint is that they lack a sense of gravitas in the mids as well as the treble, which means that orchestral music tends to sound flat rather than grand. The bass is smooth and well-rounded however, it can be overemphasized and can cause fatigue in songs with heavy bass lines such as the drums that are pounding in As I Lay Dying's Forever. The cymbals can sound smoky rather than full and there's no sense of depth in the lows.

The Momentum 4s are comfy and shouldn't put too much pressure on your neck or ears. However, they can be a bit difficult to wear around the house or during longer listening sessions, and can move around on your head with intense head movements. This can cause them wake up unexpectedly, which can be distracting when listening to music or making calls. Fortunately, they shut down after 15 minutes of sleep by default, and can be manually switched off with the power button.
