Transponders

Transponders are a common feature on modern cars to help protect against car theft. The chip sends a signal to a pair coils that are positioned around the ignition barrel of the vehicle. These coils are activated by the key and send a pulse electromagnetic energy to the chip. The chip responds by sending a unique identifier to the car. The unique code can be used to unlock doors and start the car.

Similar technology was utilized in military planes during the World War 2 era to help air traffic controllers identify them on radar. The aviation industry still uses this type of chip code message.

These systems were believed to be clone proof up until recently. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. The technology behind these chips was enhanced and they no longer have clone-proof. This has led a number of auto locksmiths to upgrade their skills by learning to read, write and program these newer chips.

Immobilisers

Renaults can be a bit complex in the area of key systems and immobilisers. There are two broad systems that affect how a replacement keys will be programmed into the car. The older one uses the "kill switch" that connects to one of the crucial car's starter parts to turn it off if the right key is not present. These are extremely delicate and require an experienced technician to determine and correct the issue if they fail.
