How to Program a Subaru Key Fob

If your Subaru key fob has buttons that don't click, it's probably due to a dead battery. Capitol Subaru's service department can replace the battery that is dead and teach you how to programme a new key when required.

Electronics designer Tom Wimmenhove discovered a flaw in the method that Subaru's key fobs process codes. It turns out that they don't utilize "rolling" codes like other car manufacturers do.

Keyless Entry

Many Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, WRX, WRX STI, Impreza and Legacy owners have access to keyless entry and push-button starting as an added convenience. This technology is designed to provide you with peace of assurance, whether you're looking to keep your keys safe or are concerned that someone might attempt to take your vehicle.

It's fairly simple. A sensor within the vehicle detects a radio signal from your key fob when it's within the range of the sensor. If the signal is valid, the car will lock or unlock when needed.

You can also modify the keyless access settings via the multi function display (models with "keyless access with push-button start system") to restrict the operations of the trunk and doors with the key fob. Consult your SUBARU dealer for details.

Keyless entry is a wonderful way to get in and out of your vehicle, even though you'll still require an electronic or physical key to start it. Subaru vehicles have a unique system that prevents the steering wheel from rotating when a key is not in the ignition. It's a safety feature that helps prevent theft by wiring your vehicle. This feature is particularly helpful when you're on the middle of a busy parking lot.
