Multiple Myeloma Injuries

Bone Pain

Multiple myeloma may be accompanied by bone pain. It is typically dull and aching. However, it can be sharp or stabbing. It could feel better or worse at different times of the day, and Multiple Myeloma Injuries could change depending on how you move your body in a particular manner.

Multiple myeloma may cause pain in your bones when it causes damage or thins the bones in the area where it is growing. It can also affect plasma cells that normally produce antibodies to fight infections. This could result in a high level of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia) and a shortage of healthy red blood cells (anaemia). Compression of the Spinal Cord

The spinal cord is the conduit for messages from your brain to your body. Anaemia

When myeloma is diagnosed the plasma cells within the bone marrow (the soft sponge-like tissue in the majority of bones that normally produces blood) get out of control. They overflow red blood cells and platelets that transport oxygen throughout the body. Plasma cells also produce antibodies that fight infections and toxins in the body.

As the abnormal plasma cells grow, they release antibodies into the bloodstream. This may cause a low red blood cell count (anemia) and a low number of platelets. These antibodies are also referred to as "M proteins," and a blood test can measure the levels of this protein in the blood and urine. This test can be used to track treatment response and identify myeloma.

The disease is difficult to diagnose and symptoms may differ from person-to-person. Your doctor might use urine tests and blood tests, imaging scans, a bone marrow biopsy or genome sequencing to diagnose the condition.

Kidney Damage

Multiple myeloma can be extremely serious and require immediate treatment. Keep a thermometer handy and call your doctor immediately whenever you experience any fever or other symptoms that could indicate an infection.
