Laryngeal Cancer and the Railroad

Diesel Exhaust

Railroad workers who are exposed to the exhaust fumes of diesel engines have a higher risk of lung cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified diesel engine emissions as a category 1 carcinogen, putting it in the same class as arsenic, asbestos, formaldehyde and benzene as well as fine silica.
