Diesel Exhaust

Diesel exhaust is a mixture of aerosols, gasses and vapours, which contain many toxic substances. In addition to diesel smog, it also contains carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulate matter. The fine particles present in diesel fumes are able to breathe that is to say they can be absorbed into the lungs. The IARC's classification of exhaust from diesel engines cites occupational studies that show an association between exposure diesel exhaust fumes and respiratory illness which includes lung cancer. These effects can be made worse by other factors such as smoking and lifestyle choices for work including sitting in rooms that are poorly ventilated or confined for long periods of time.

In order to cut down on diesel exhaust emissions, diesel engines often employ a fuel additive dubbed Diesel Exhaust Fluid. It is a mix of urea, water, and other ingredients. Urea is an end product of mammals' metabolic processes and is present in their urine. During the Diesel Exhaust Fluid manufacturing process, it's combined with other materials and heated in a catalytic converter to produce ammonia and isocyanic acid.

Asbestos

Railroad workers were exposed to asbestos in the air which is a heat-resistant mineral that was also a fire retardant. It was widely used in a range of rail-related equipment, such as locomotives, train cars and Emphysema railroad Lawsuit train brakes. As these products age and break down, they release tiny asbestos fibers into the atmosphere. If these fibers are inhaled they can cause serious lung diseases, such as asbestosis and mesothelioma.

Wrongful Death
